Once your first appointment is booked our receptionist will send you a confirmation email with the name of the Psychologist, the appointment time and date, the fee for the appointment and our location. Attached to this confirmation email will be a New Client Form. We kindly ask that you fill out this form and bring it with you to your first appointment.
A reminder email and text message is sent a few days before your appointment to remind you of your appointment time. If you are unable to attend your appointment, please call the practice as soon as possible to cancel or reschedule the appointment.
When arriving for your first session…
When attending your first session, please bring the following paperwork with you:
- A referral and/or any relevant treatment plans (e.g. Mental Health Care Plan)
- A copy of any previous assessments or reports by other health professionals (e.g. Paediatrician, Psychiatrist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Pathologists etc). This also includes any school reports from teachers, counsellors/school psychologists
- Your completed New Client Form
If you have not been able to complete your New Client Form before your appointment please arrive at the practice 10-15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to fill out the form.
For child clients (under 16 years of age) the first appointment is for the parent or carer/guardian. Following this the Psychologist develops a treatment plan.
For the subsequent sessions your child will be required to attend the sessions so that the Psychologist can work through the treatment plan with them. Each Psychologist and their approach varies slightly however all sessions are based on evidence-based treatments and therapies. The Psychologist aims to equip the child and the family with a range of skills to manage the presenting concerns.
The number of sessions depends on the presenting problem, treatment method and the child and family’s response to treatment.
If you or your child is booked in for an assessment here at the practice, the age of the child and the type of assessment needed will determine how many assessment sessions are needed. Assessment sessions are recommended to be scheduled on separate days. Please click here to see what assessments are offered at Sydney Psychology Centre.
The first session is a standard clinical/developmental history interview with the parents and the Psychologist. In the subsequent assessment sessions the child will work independently on the assessment with the assistance of the Psychologist. Assessment appointments take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
Once the assessments are completed the Psychologist will interpret, score and review the results and provide feedback to you. A comprehensive report is provided after the feedback session.
